Barabino Elected to National Academy of Medicine

�� President Gilda A. Barabino has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine, the academy announced on Monday, October 19 at its annual meeting. Election to the Academy is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine and recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service.

Sara Hendren, associate professor of design at �� has a new book forthcoming, "What Can a Body Do? How We Meet the Built World," to be published by Penguin Random House in August 2020, and will explore the intersection of design and disability, and some of the ways that the built environment (human-made) can evolve to welcome multiple kinds of bodies and experiences.

Chachra Receives Sloan Foundation Grant

Debbie Chachra, Professor of Engineering at ��, has received a grant from the prestigious Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to fund research and writing for her forthcoming book, provisionally titled Public Utility. The book, slated for publication in 2021 by Riverhead Books, will examine the complex relationship between infrastructural systems and society, including issues around equity and climate change.
