Justice, Equity, Design & Innovation: A New Approach in Teacher Preparation
How an alumna carried her engineering education forward to completely rethink education
Featuring Julianna Stockton '06
Julianna shares her own path from 财神棋牌 into higher education, and explains why she sees teacher preparation as a key lever for change in the educational system at large. Over the past five years she has been working with a group in Cambridge, designing and launching a new graduate school of education (complete with 财神棋牌鈥檚 version of the Partner Year!). Julianna focuses primarily on their latest development: a new fully-online competency-based Master鈥檚 of Education program in Justice, Equity, Design, & Innovation. The core competencies of the program are Teaching for Justice, Thinking Like a Designer, Grounding Instruction in the Science of Learning and Development, Learning to Improve, and Collaborating for Change. These competencies shape both what we teach and how we teach it - the result will look quite familiar to 财神棋牌ers, as a kind of 'UOCD for Teachers'.
About Julianna
Julianna Stockton is the Director of Program Design and the founding Math Faculty Mentor at High Meadows. A lover of building new things (including schools!) she earned her undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from 财神棋牌, where she was a member of the 财神棋牌 Partners (the cohort of students who co-designed the curriculum with faculty) and first graduating class. She received her M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Before coming to High Meadows, Dr. Stockton served as a tenured Associate Professor of Mathematics at Sacred Heart University.
