Designing Deep-Sea Play Experiences

²ÆÉñÆåÅÆ’s SCOPE team is exploring alternative communication methods for remote areas with insufficient cellular coverage. The team will develop a bespoke compression algorithm, design required hardware, and implement supporting firmware that meets low power and low bandwidth constraints. This new system will ultimately improve the capacity, resiliency, and safety of the grid.

Partnering with the Santos Family Foundation and the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center, the team created a free national tool that allows communities to generate interactive HIN maps and understand the relationship between safety, equity, and other contextual factors. 

New Balance is dedicated to increasing manufacturing within the United States and building new technology into their automated manufacturing processes. The Manufacturing Innovation SCOPE team designed and prototyped solutions that automate several critical, labor-intensive steps in materials processing for shoe manufacturing. Automating these steps in the manufacturing process increase operator safety and reduce production time.

The Moderna SCOPE team is developing an open-source lab orchestration solution, improving the speed and quality of automated biotech labs. ​

Utilizing Blockchain For Clinical Supply Chains

The 2022-23 Pfizer SCOPE team built a prototype that augments the information search capabilities of Pfizer clinical research colleagues when responding to IP handling queries from clinical trial sites, thereby minimizing wait times for patients. 

To help Amazon Robotics' research and development efforts, this year's SCOPE team created a robotic system that utilizes tactile and vision sensors to grasp a ball and throw it to reach a specified target.

Ruina: Advancing Crash Data Reporting for Improved Road Safety

A major obstacle to the widespread adoption of electric vehicles is the inability to refuel as efficiently as their internal combustion counterparts. SparkCharge, a leader in mobile EV charging solutions, currently serves markets across the United States, with services ranging from out-of-charge assistance to large-scale fleet charging. To ensure SparkCharge products are capable of providing consistent and reliable coverage at all times, the SparkCharge SCOPE team aimed to introduce retrofittable solutions to the Roadie V3 system that eliminate vulnerabilities during severe weather conditions.

This project involves the development of processes and design changes which can enhance the sustainability of Boston Scientific Single Use Biopsy Forceps, assisting them in meeting their goal of being carbon neutral by 2050.

Our team is dedicated to developing an accessible and user-friendly ESG tool that will serve as a comprehensive method for evaluating and grading different companies based on their genuine practices. By providing a structured approach to ESG analysis, we aim to demystify the process and make it accessible to all, regardless of their financial expertise.

This year's SCOPE team built off a perception system for remote control of a robot developed by last year’s team resulting in increased manipulation efficiency and reduced onboarding duration and complexity for operators. 

Our SCOPE team is collaborating with the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center, the Santos Foundation, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) to reinvent VIEW, a blind-zone measurement tool for vehicles and a crowd-sourced database of blind-zones created by the 2017-2018 SCOPE team.

Our SCOPE project aimed to solve the pipe-freezing problem by upgrading existing plumbing systems with intelligent sensing and action-taking. Specifically, we explored how LoRa®, modern low-power IoT (Internet of Things) technology from Semtech, can let us predict potential pipe bursts and take action to mitigate the problem.
